day 10: favourite quote

"And maybe, you can tell your baby
when you love him so that he's been loved before-
from someone who delivered your son,
From God's Arms to My Arms, to Yours"

I have said before how I felt immediately that when I found out I was expecting adoption was my only option, and I felt very confident and at peace with that decision, because I knew in my heart that it was right. This quote summarizes what those feelings meant to me.

I believe in a pre-existence, and in life after death. I believe that we all lived together in the presence of God before coming to earth, and that after we die we will be reunited with our families for all of eternity. Now, this may sound crazy to some of you... but I think that perhaps in the pre-existence we knew of the struggles we would face on earth, and that we agreed to tackle them in order to complete our journey here and make it back to our Father in Heaven. Maybe Cash's parents knew of their physical challenges that would prevent them from having children... and maybe I said I would help bring Cash to them through an unconventional way, in order to allow him to gain a spirit and be with his temporal family. (which are the ones he was adopted into).

Whether or not my theory is true, I find peace in believing it is.
I can't ask for anything more than D&Y making sure Cash knows every day who I am, and how much I love him. After all.... I delivered him from God's arms- to theirs.

(This quote means everything to me. It is from the song "From God's Arms to My Arms, to Yours" by Michael McLean. I first read this quote on a picture in the office of my Adoption Counsellor, the first time I met with her. The words completely stuck with me from that day on, and that is where I got the name for my blog from!)

christmas.

This years Christmas was certainly different from any other year, but I guess that's just a part of growing up. All of my siblings are 27+, and I have 3 nephews and 3 nieces under 6. As it turns out, Christmas is not centered around me and I finally realized that this year ! haha. We spent Christmas Eve together as a family last night, as we always do, and opened up all presents under the tree. Then this morning we went to my brothers house in Magrath for church and spent the rest of the day there. I think that was the weirdest part for me, not being at home for Christmas. My sister and her family decided to spend the day at home, much to my disgust... I love her kids SO much and was disappointed that I wasn't going to be able to see them. But thats life.

I was super excited to give my nieces and nephews their presents last night, and I also finally realized how much more enjoyable it is to give than to receive. I could care less about opening my presents, I just wanted to see the kids faces when they opened theirs.
My FAVORITE gift to give, however, was to those who I unfortunately would not be able to see. I was being crafty this year and decided to continue on my tradition of Christmas Ornaments for Cash's family by making one! I am extremely OCD about things and am a perfectionist, so I was really stressed out about making something, but it actually turned out well and I was happy with the end result. As always with Cash's presents, there is one for myself one as well.

I also happened to come across this picture frame a few months ago, and I thought it was PERFECT. D&Y don't have any photos of the placement, and even though this one isn't focussed I was so happy to have any at all. I hope Y will really cherish it, and hang it in Cash's room so he can see this special moment for himself every day.

On the back of the frame I put a copy of "From Gods Arms to My Arms to Yours". I thought it was really fitting for the frame, and just so happens that thats what my blog is named after !

Last years Christmas I posted a poem, it was aimed towards a birthmother's first Christmas since her child was born, but excerpts of that poem are still true for me now, on Cash's second Christmas. I think the poem is perfect, so I'm going to use it again....

Knowing her decision
Was one for the best
She lights a candle in memory
Then sits down to rest.

The wick of the candle
flickers with light
The wind outside is howling
She finds little comfort on this lonely night

She takes out an album
And gently dusts off the cover
It is all she has left
To feel like a mother.

She treasures each photo
of her little one
They are her only ties
To her precious son.

Silently a tear
Slips down her cheek
She wipes it away quickly
So she doesn't appear weak.

Christmas will never
be the same again
She will always be thinking
of her little man.

She knows through her pain
For him this was right
But her unselfless deed
Gives little comfort that night.

Her arms are still empty
Her heart is still breaking
He is with somebody else
And she is left aching.

I got to cuddle my darling little niece all day, and that definitely is therapeutic for me. My arms ache to hold Cash as a baby again, and taking care of her eases the pain I still feel naturally after the "loss" of Cash. Its difficult to explain, but holding Brylee takes some of the ache away. And it helps that she is such a sweetheart !

Her heart sits on each page
Of that dusty book
In his eyes, his little face
The way that he looks.

She can't hide her pain
She can't hide her tears
This is the first of many
Long, painful years

It is true that my Christmases will never be the same, and each year I know I will feel an emptiness in my heart and that longing to have Cash with me. I see all his cousins playing together, and I wish that he could be in there with them too. I definitely feel like there is something missing when we are all together. I know without a doubt that he was excessively spoiled this year with presents, and that he gets more than enough love from his adoptive family. I hope he also feel's of his biological family's love for him too, mine and Curtis's.
I am accepting the fact that each year for Christmas I might get sad that Cash is not with me. I made a choice 18 months ago, and this is a small consequence of that choice.

But the light that she sees
At the end of all this
Is the smile on his face
He is truly blessed

With that thought
She slowly readies for bed
To sleep all night
Dreams of him in her head

She slowly lays down
And heads off to sleep
Knowing his memory
She will always keep.

Merry Christmas, everyone. And especially to my little boy & his family. I love you all.

18 months

I can't believe 18 months have passed since I gave birth to my dear boy. So tiny and perfect, he is quickly growing into a handsome little man. A year ago, these milestones would have affected me more than they do now, when the pain was fresher, deeper. While tears still slowly fall down my cheeks as I type tonight, I know that all will be okay. God did not send us here to struggle, he sent us here to learn and to grow. And that is exactly what Cash and I both are doing.

" Oh I believe there are angels among us
Sent down to us from somewhere up above
They come to you and me in our darkest hours
To show us how to live
To teach us how to give
To guide us with a light of love "

Happy 18 months of life to my little angel

and then... i wake up.

You know Sleeping Beauty? Once Upon a Dream? She's in the forest telling her animal friends all about this prince she met. Leading them on and on and getting them all excited.. "We walk together, and talk together, and just before we say goodbye, he takes me in his arms.... and then I wake up. Yes, its only in my dreams."

I keep having these odd dreams a few nights a week.. They are so vivid after I wake up, and I never seem to forget them. They are always similar in nature. In one dream, Curtis and I were staying at D&Y's house, and in another they were staying with us at my house. The 4 of us are talking in the dreams, usually about Cash. It is such a comfortable setting and it seems as though we have been friends for years. Their daughter S is around, playing with us, and I know Cash is too.. The troubling part to me is that I never see him in these dreams. I know he's there, and we talk about him like he's right there, but I just can't see him. I want to see him, and I try so hard to!! But no matter what I do, I always seem to wake up right when I think I'm about to. I've been having dreams like this on and off since June, and not once have I actually seen him in them. I wish I understood what this meant, if it means anything. Ugh.

"Sometimes, the things that happen today
make us a stronger person for tomorrow."
"I LOVE quotes. I LIVE by quotes. I have quotes all over my bedroom that hold personal meanings. This quote really spoke to me today. YOU aren't a burden to me baby, but the situation I am in is extremely hard for me to handle at times. People say hurtful things, and that doesn't make it any easier. I struggle to stay afloat, but I know I am going to grow so much from this experience, I already have. I feel somewhat blessed, because I believe you are being sent here for a reason. My patriarchal blessing made that clear to me. So Yes, even though things are difficult today, it will be a blessing down the road in life. I won't get discouraged when things get tough. Challenges and trials are a part of God's plan for us here on Earth. Its how we act and react from those problems that make the difference. Always keep your head held high, baby. Never, ever give up. No matter what you may be going through, you'll get through, and come out stronger on the other side. I promise."

This video was so great that I knew I had to share it with the world. It's everything I could tell you summed up into one video. It's a little long, but so worth watching.

edited: a letter to you.

I originally wrote this on February 22nd, but I felt the need to add in some things. Sorry to those of you who have already read it.

This is a letter to you. Maybe you just accidentally came upon my blog. Maybe you've been reading all along. Whatever the reason for your visit at this very moment, I want to thank you. I don't get many responses to my posts, but the ones I do get inspire me. If I have made even the smallest influence on someone else's life, then my job here is done. I started writing with the intentions to keep it private and just write as a sort of healing process for me. Then I decided to open it up without telling anyone, so that the only readers were those who actually wanted to hear from someone like them.. Well, now it has become all of that and so much more. Writing this blog has helped me in so many ways, and its the people like you who make me want to continue writing. I receive so many emails and Facebook messages from you all, and I am so thankful for them. To those of you that I have not yet replied to, I am sorry! But please know I appreciated your kind words so much, and it all means a lot to me. Sometimes you say you are embarrassed to tell me you read my blog, or that it is awkward to send me a message. Please stop thinking like that ! haha. I love hearing from you, especially when you say I have made a small difference in your life. So keep sending those messages ! ;) Maybe you haven't personally been affected by adoption, but I hope you can use some of it to apply to other trials you are facing. Whatever the case, I hope you have gained a little something from reading about my experiences. If you are struggling with something, anything at all.. just remember to keep your head held high. Thats the best advice I could give you. Don't give up when things get tough. Thats when you have to keep going.. never give up. Take the opportunity life has handed you with open arms. Don't think of a trial as the end of something. Think of it as the start to something great.

"Beginnings are scary, endings are usually sad, but it's the middle that counts the most. Try to remember that when you find yourself at a new beginning. Just give hope a chance to float up. And it will... "

a little side note

"As you grow up,
you’ll learn that even the one person that wasn't supposed to ever let you down probably will. You'll have your heart broken and you'll break others' hearts. You'll fight with your best friend or maybe even fall in love with them,
And you'll cry because time is flying by.
So take many pictures, laugh too much, forgive freely, and love like you've never been hurt.
Life comes with no guarantees,
no time outs, and no second chances. you just have to live life to the fullest, tell someone what they mean to you and tell someone off;
speak out. dance in the pouring rain, hold someone's hand, comfort a friend,
fall asleep watching the sun come up, stay up late, and
smile until your face hurts.  Don't be afraid to take chances or fall in love and most of all,
live in the moment
because every second you spend angry or upset is a second of happiness you can never get back"

guest story!

I got this email from a fellow birthmother and I was so excited when she said I could share it with you all. I love hearing about other birthmother's experiences. Each and every story from someone who has been involved in adoption is amazing, and this one is no different. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did !

"Everyone’s story is different, even when we go through the same sorts of things... My story didn’t start eight years ago but it didn’t end there either.  My story probably starts in grade school.  I was not a popular girl and I was picked on and spit on and bullied my whole school life.  In grade 12 I moved, ran away from my school problems and found a better group a friends.  I dated my first boyfriend, although I don’t think I liked him but liked the fact that he liked me.  It didn’t last long.
After school, I went to college.  One day, walking down the halls with my roommate, we past a really attractive guy.  He said something I thought was nice and my roommate thought was flirting and I was hooked.  I didn’t know who he was, but he was nice to me and he was attractive.  Later on during the school year we met and started hanging out.  He wasn’t a member of my church and didn’t believe in God at all.  He didn’t have a lot of moral standing or have a lot of the qualities I wanted in a husband but he thought I was attractive and no one had ever said that before.  My parents were always trying to get me to be better and do something different and it’s probably because they could see the direction in which I was heading and wanted to help.  But I didn’t see it as help or love, I saw it as attacking.  I got into trouble as always happens in these stories and then I assumed that the Lord no longer loved me because I had sinned.  No one else seemed to love me or care for me so why would He?  The only person who did was a guy who wouldn’t even date me exclusively, but that is all I thought I was worth.

I got pregnant and the first suggestion from this guy was to get an abortion.  I was offended but looking back, it makes sense that if a person didn’t believe in God, they wouldn’t see abortion as wrong either.  Luckily, I remembered enough of what I had been taught as a child and could never abort a child.  His next idea was adoption.  We weren’t going to be married, that wasn’t the direction our relationship was going, although I thought I loved him.  He didn’t have a steady job and wanted to be a magician and free, not tied down to a kid with some girl he was just having fun times with.  So, I looked into adoption and single parenting.  I had some really good friends to help me along the way and one told me time and time again that if I wanted to single parent, I could come live with her and her soon-to-be husband once they were married and they would help support me and my baby.  I loved the support but I knew that adoption was the best thing for this child and that is the direction I went in.  I know it is not the same for all young, unmarried mother’s but that was the best thing for my baby.  I found a good family and met them a few times.  When I first saw their pictures, I knew that was where my child belonged- they were her family!

At the end of our relationship, this guy I was dating decided that he wanted to change things up.  Three weeks before I was due, he came to me and said that he wanted his brother and sister-in-law adopt our daughter and then he could see her whenever he wanted but he wouldn’t have to parent her.  He told me he was going to take me to court over her.  I was pretty worried and went into the hospital that night, bleeding due to stress.  This was where things changed.  I asked my dad for a blessing and in it I was told that I had to fight for this child because she couldn’t fight for herself.  Three weeks later, I went into the hospital with my mom as my support and had a beautiful baby girl. Five days after that he took me to court and I fought for my daughter and what I knew was right.  I knew she was part of someone else’s family and I knew that was the will of the Lord.  So many people were behind me, praying for the baby and I and it did work our way.  Before the end of the day, my daughter was with her family and I have only seen her once since.  I have gotten pictures and letters of her for the last eight years and now my openness agreement has come to its end.  We have written about it and her parents feel that continuing should be her decision and so I will see if I hear anything else.

Was this hard? Yes. It was the hardest thing I did in my life, but one of the best things I did, too.
Is it still hard? Yes.  But life is different now looking back.
Do I regret my experience?  No, I was able to make something good out of something that wasn’t and I was able to bring a beautiful daughter of God into the world for someone who couldn’t do it for themselves.
I learned a lot from my experience and as I fought for her, I learned to fight for myself.  I learned that I am important, to the Lord and to myself and that is all that matters!  There were still times where Satan tested this new resolve to love myself and there are times when he still does but I am winning more and more.
I learned that I wanted to date a young man who would treat me well and who loved me, and I did.  I made myself a list of things I wanted in a husband and when I got married a few years ago, my husband had so many good qualities.  He treats me the way I should be treated.  Does he know about my past? Yes, but he doesn’t truly understand it.  It’s hard for people who haven’t been through something like that to understand.  I never gave her to her family because it would be a good decision for me, I only thought of her.
Since this, I have gone to school in the field of those who worked with me and helped me so that I can do the same for someone else.
I don’t have any children yet but I plan on it.

There are always hard times, but things seem to get better.  Like a war wound the scab heals and becomes a scar and doesn’t bleed anymore.  But also like a war wound, there are good days and bad days.  There are days that the old war wound really hurts and I pull out my pictures and letter and cry.  There was the time I help my first nephew for the first time and just cried for a little while.  I wouldn’t hold babies at all until he came but he helped me heal that wound. But those bad days are getting further apart with a lot more good days in between.  There are days when you wouldn’t even notice my war limp and there are days where people look at me and I can tell they are seeing the limp and wondering where it is from.  Even people who know what the limp and wound are from still don’t understand.  Some of my siblings were angry with me for a long time because I took their niece away.  Others have used this to change their lives and do things differently.  I even have one sibling that wants to adopt now.
Every story is different and every girl decides her ending differently.  For me, I chose to keep my daughter to myself- not a secret but something that I don’t share because she is too personal and others don’t understand.
The last time I took out my pictures and letters there weren’t any tears.  There is always sadness but there is hope, too.  Hope for her and hope for me.  Hope that her life will turn out better with her family than it would with me and hope that she will have a great self-esteem and not get into the problems I did.  Hope that I will have my own children and be able to raise them and love them as much as I love her.

Hope guides me. It is what gets me through the day and especially the night. The hope that after you're gone from my sight it will not be the last time I look upon you.” A Knights Tale

6 months.

I can't believe how fast the time has flown by. At times, it doesn't even seem like it actually happened. That 6 months ago I was holding a tiny baby boy, getting ready to say goodbye. People say that things get easier in time, but I disagree. Life goes on and things get busy, but Cash is always in my heart & mind. When I think back to that day, 6 months ago, the pain is as real now as it was then. When I stop to think back to placing him in the arms of his mom, my heart breaks and no matter how hard I try not to cry, I do. Little things remind me of it- the clothes I was wearing, the blanket he was wrapped in, the soother I took from him… movies like “Charlie St. Cloud” ("Everyone has to let go sometime") and “The Last Song” ("Sometimes you have to be apart from people you love, but that doesn't make you love them any less. Sometimes you love them more."

I love that little boy more than words can explain. I think about him all day, everyday. Not a single hour passes by that I don't think of him. Of course, I still cry sometimes when I think about Cash.. But the sad tears are slowly being replaced with happy ones. At first, I was crying because I missed him. I wanted to hold him in my arms again. I wanted to hear his little cooing noises while he slept. I wanted to tell him how much I loved him so he would never forget. I still want those things.. But now I cry because I know he is being taken care of. I know he is loved. I want to tell him I love him- but he already knows.

Curt and I are going to see him tomorrow for the first time in 6 months. I can hardly wait to see how comfortable he is in his home, with his family. I can't wait to hold him and tell him I love him. I can't wait to see how he has grown.. he's no longer the little baby I knew. I won't lie, I am pretty nervous. I don't know what to expect. Saying goodbye once was hard enough, saying goodbye again might be just as tough. Or, it might be easier because I know this isn't goodbye. Its just a simple see-you-later.

mistakes becoming miracles.

This might be a little confusing, but I had a lot of thoughts on my mind. And although what I say in this post relates to my past, it is also for everyone who’s ever made a mistake. For everyone who’s been angry with someone over something they’ve done. Or maybe someone who’s angry with themselves for hurting someone else. Whatever it is in your life you are struggling with, I hope this post can help you see the bright side of it.

My mom commented on a previous post of mine, "If we can learn from our [mistakes and] experiences, they aren't mistakes at all." How true this is! Never let a decision from the past ruin your life, but take a lesson from the past to start a new life and make your future the best you can. It doesn’t matter who you are- every person on this earth has made a mistake at some point in their life. And if you think you haven’t- well there’s your mistake right there. Everybody has a past.  But why let your past define you? It’s what you do in your future that counts.

When something bad happens, you have three choices: you can let it destroy you, define you, or strengthen you.

I have found that when some people go through a less than desirable experience, they use it as an excuse. They use it as a crutch to all their other problems, and when something bad happens again, they blame it on the first experience. This is allowing the hurt to destroy and define you. I did NOT want to be remembered just as "the girl who got knocked up" in highschool. I could have let my whole world crash down around me. I could have allowed it to get the best of me, and I could have just given up right there. But after a lot of praying and thinking I realized this- anyone can give up, it’s the easiest thing in the world. But to hold it together when everyone else would understand if you fell apart? That’s true strength.

Strength doesn’t come from winning. Strength comes when you lose, and go through struggles.

The strongest people I know aren't physically strong.. The strongest people I know are the ones who were able to pull through seemingly impossible trials in their lives and still manage to smile. They are the women who have buried children, just days old. The women who, against all odds, have overcame cancer. The women who's husbands abandoned them and their families. The women who have been abused, yet are still able to trust. They are the women I admire, and strive every day to be like. I am positive that these women have had multiple times where they felt like throwing their hands up in the air and being done with it all. Everyone goes through their highs and lows, and we all feel useless and upset with our lives at one point or another. We all feel like giving up sometimes.

When you reach the point where you want to give up, look behind and see how far you have already came.

What would be the point of going through hell and back, only to throw it all away when things were looking up? What would be the point of giving up then? Was hiding out in my room going to change the fact that I was pregnant? NO, it wouldn’t! I didn’t want to just give up- I had a new life to take care of, and I wanted to make that baby proud. I had already come so far from where I was- and although it was extremely difficult at times, I decided that no matter what, I was going to keep my head held high. I was going to stay positive.

Our choices rule our destiny. What happened yesterday we cannot change, but what happens now and what will happen tomorrow is always in our hands. Life will happen the way
 we choose it to happen.

People make mistakes, things go wrong, just remember
 life goes on.

We all make mistakes. Everyone on this earth has made mistakes. Recognizing that, and acting on it to make things better is the first step to moving on. I knew I had made a mistake.. I knew I had made many. I directly hurt someone really close to me, and I was hurting my family and everyone else who cared about me. I felt so much shame and hurt for these people I was hurting. It was eating me alive- I felt guilt, sadness, and anger. I felt embarrassed when I was in public, not because I was pregnant, but because of the pain I was causing people I loved. I don't know what did it, but one day I just woke up and realized I had to let that all go. I had to forgive myself for the mistakes I made, so that I could move on. I didn't want to feel this way, because I knew I wouldn't be able to move forward with my life.

When you dwell on the past, the past dwells on you.

The whole purpose of forgiveness is to allow yourself the permission to move on without the hurt. Often times individuals are more than willing to forgive others- but not so willing to forgive themselves. As human beings, it is our natural tendency to beat ourselves up over things we do wrong, and hardly acknowledge the things we do right. By forgiving yourself of a past transgression or mistake, you are allowing yourself to move forward, and past that negative event in your life. However, forgiving yourself will not cause those feelings to disappear completely. The memory lasts as a reminder not to repeat the mistake, and allow the hurt back in.

The past can hurt, but you either run from it or learn from it.

“You can’t erase the past, you can’t even change it.
But that doesn’t mean life doesn’t offer you
the opportunity to make it right.”

As much as I wanted to, I couldn’t erase the fact that I was pregnant. I couldn’t change the fact that I was pregnant. But life handed me the opportunity to choose a great life for my child and make it right. From day one, I knew I couldn’t support a child, and I didn’t want him to suffer because of my mistake. People may disagree, but to me adoption was the way I could make something good out of something bad. I looked at this trial as a blessing for another family- and never as a burden to my own.

It turns out, sometimes you have to do the wrong thing. Sometimes your have to make a big mistake, to figure out how to make things right. Mistakes are painful, but they’re really the only way to find out who you really are.

Trials are Gods way of showing us that he trusts us enough to know that we can get through whatever life is throwing at us.

I had always looked at Cash as being a “gift” of sorts- My Heavenly Father needed to give me a firm smack to smarten up, and someone else needed a child. I definitely believe that if He didn’t think I could handle it, He wouldn’t have trusted me with that big of a thing. It made me feel better knowing I had His help in all I do too. Cash was my wake-up call, and from that moment on I made a conscious effort to change my life around.

“You’ll never leave where you are without first
 deciding where you’d rather be.”

When you set a goal in life, sometimes you always don't have a plan to get there. You just know its something you want to achieve, and will do what it takes to get it. A year ago, I was on a path I didn’t even think about where it was leading to. But when I thought about that baby boy, I realized where I wanted to end up, and I left that life behind. Today, I am on my way to being the kind of person I wish I had always been. I don’t want to sound all self-righteous or anything, so I wont. But I learnt so much through this experience and cocky or not, I know that I am a better person because of it. I am neither proud of nor happy with the girl I used to be.

No smile is more beautiful than one
that’s smiled through the tears.

Honestly, before last year I hated myself and everything about me. I was never happy, and I was upset with the things I was doing yet didn’t have the confidence to step up for myself and quit it all. But this trial showed me how to love myself, especially when everyone else didn’t. Its odd- but feeling alone didn’t necessarily bother me.. I learnt to be comfortable with my own skin, even if it was 50 pounds heavier!

Every story has an end, but in life every
end is just a new beginning.

I have this quote at the bottom of my blog for a reason. At one point, almost everything comes to some sort of an end. People pass away, relationships end, friendships are lost… the list goes on and on. But Life doesn’t end when someone dies, break-ups happen so that you can find the right person, and friendships end to make way for new people to come into your life. The same goes for trials and hardships. You can look at a death or break-up as an ending, or you can look at it as a start to something new. The trials we face may seem horrible at the time, but when all is said and done, it is just the start to the next chapter in our lives. Don’t give up and close the book just because things get bad.
There is always something brighter on the next page, just waiting to be read.

if i could go back?

It is late, but I was having a hard time sleeping because there was so much on my mind. I've been thinking a lot lately about my life, and I just can't seem to come to a conclusion about anything. I say I have no regrets, and perhaps that is true because I have learnt from it all..
But would I go back if I could? Of course I would.

I would go back to when it all started falling apart, and do things differently.
I would go back and be the friend that she deserved.
I wouldn't go behind the backs of the people who loved me.
I would be the loyal, trustworthy person I try to be now, back then.
I would tell her how sorry I was before it was too late.

While reading some other girls blogs, I have realized today how much my life changed my last year of high school, and how much I wish I could go back. I never imagined a year ago that I would be sitting here, feeling this way. A year ago, I felt like everything was going to be okay and nothing would change.. but obviously it did.
I'm not saying I regret Cash- I regret the situation. I regret losing my friends because of something I did. I regret not telling the truth when it needed to be told, and I regret the outcome that it made. My true friends stayed by my side, but many walked away. It was understandable- but still a hard thing to swallow. I specifically lost two girls who were very important to me because of this.. I miss them dearly, and think about them everyday. I often wonder "what if". What if things turned out differently and we were still friends? That would be ideal. But I realize that I cannot change the past, I can only change my future. I make a conscious effort daily to be the friend I wish I was to this girl last year. It hurts a lot to wake up every day not having the friends I had growing up. But since then, I have found myself and made myself a better friend for the new people I have met since then. I have amazing friends who know my story, and accept it. I am so grateful for them in my life, and the opportunity I have to go to school with them everyday. I am grateful for my best friend from high school who stuck by me, even when it caused her own friendships to fail. I am grateful that I will always call this girl my best friend, because I know we have a friendship that will last forever.
This post started off being negative, but I guess it is ending on a positive note. Yes, my senior year of high school turned out 1000 times differently than I had ever wanted it to. And yes, I lost many friends. But in the end, I gained so much more.

In life, we often have to give up something good for something better.

I feel as though I made myself a better person throughout this last year, and I am actually really grateful for that trial in my life because it shaped who I am today. So yes, I had to give up/lose many good things in my life to get to this point, but I firmly believe it was worth it.

God will not give us any trial we cannot handle, so why should we be upset when one is placed upon us? With his help, we can get through anything. So when you're feeling sad or alone, and wish that you could go back and change things, remember that these hard times are just God's way of showing you how strong He knows you can be. Take the trials and use them as opportunities to grow and develop. You might lose something good, but I promise something better will come your way if you allow it to.
